Crazy Horse Memorial
Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski and Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear started carving the Crazy Horse Memorial on June 3, 1948. Today, their legend lives on as the work continues to bring their vision to life. This historic and stunning Memorial's mission is to honor the culture, tradition and living heritage of North American Indians.
Wildlife Loop
The gorgeous Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park journeys through open grasslands and rolling hills speckled with pine. Along the route, you can spot wildlife species of all kinds: Buffalo, bighorn sheep, antelope, deer, elk, coyote, prairie dogs, and various birds. The Loop also offers views of the higher portions of the Black Hills, the Badlands, endless sky, and lush streambeds.
Needles Highway
On the Needles Highway, you'll find hairpin curves, beautiful wooden bridges, and narrow tunnels that lead you past stunning granite pinnacles and rugged terrain. With views of a variety of spires and outcroppings, the route is certainly one of the most scenic drives in America. Just past one of the tunnels, there is a spectacular view of the Needles Eye, a natural granite tower that reaches 40 to 50 feet in the air.
Sylvan Lake
Sylvan Lake offers some of the best activities in the Black Hills. From nearby hiking trails to welcoming beaches, this lake has it all. The lakeside general store has countless watercrafts for rental and the lush trees offer shade and comfort. Along with swimming, fishing, and games on the beach, the area also offers delicious meals at the Sylvan Lake Dining Room, located in the Lodge.
